In 1999 Getecha was approached by the worlds largest manufacturer of optical discs to develop a system to collect, granulate and re-use the scrap sprues in the disc manufacturing process. It was concluded that if possible, the savings in material, handling labor and nuisance issues would prove to be profitable for disc manufacturers - as long as production yields were not affected.
BACKGROUND:
The CD and DVD industry discards sprues generated during the molding process. The value of these discarded sprues can exceed $100,000.00 per annum in an eight machine plant.

CONCERNS:
The conventional granulators used
in the Plastic Industry create fines
during the grinding process. These
fines lead to black spots which
negatively affect the yield of the
process. Additionally, the open design of conventional granulators create an easy avenue for the introduction of airborne contamination, material collection points where the partially ground material may accumulate moisture, and other effects which make use of standardized equipment impossible.

SOLUTION:
Getecha has developed a system specifically for the in-line re-use of CD Sprues. This development was the result of the constant modification and improvement of already proven designs. The Getecha SRS 100 utilizes a proprietary screen and knife design coupled with a low rpm drive to create a uniform sized, dust free granule, which does not affect the optical disc production yield. As the system is positioned adjacent to, and in-line with, the replicating machine the material is constantly being reintroduced, there is no need to re-dry the ground Sprue.

| 1: The sprue produced with every disc is transferred to the granulator via one of two methods.
2: The granulator, quietly and without the production of dust, processes the sprue for re-introduction and blending with the virgin material.
3: The granule is transported to the valve assembly for mixing with the virgin material.
Systems consist of all necessary components and arrive ready for installation or to be installed by a Getecha technician.
